Make this easy ground beef and cheese pie using Bisquick for a simple, comforting weeknight dinner. It tastes like your favorite cheeseburger baked in a flaky crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 2 cups Bisquick mix
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. Brown the ground beef and onion in a skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the salt, pepper, and water. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, allowing the liquid to mostly absorb.
  4. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the cheddar cheese, ketchup, and mustard until combined. Spread this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pie plate.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix, milk, and egg until just combined to form a thick batter.
  6. Pour the Bisquick batter evenly over the beef mixture in the pie plate.
  7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Let the pie cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add 1/4 cup of finely chopped dill pickles to the beef mixture before topping with the batter.
  • You can substitute Colby Jack or Monterey Jack cheese for the cheddar if you prefer a milder flavor.
  • This recipe freezes well; cool completely, wrap tightly, and freeze for up to three months. Thaw overnight and reheat at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until warmed through.
