1 tablespoon granulated sugar or maple syrup (for strawberry layer)
1 teaspoon water (for strawberry layer)
1 teaspoon ceremonial grade matcha powder
2 tablespoons hot water (for whisking matcha)
Ice cubes
Instructions
Prepare the strawberry puree: Combine the strawberries, sugar or maple syrup, and 1 teaspoon of water in a small blender or food processor. Blend until smooth. If you prefer a slightly textured layer, mash the strawberries well with a fork instead.
Prepare the matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of hot (not boiling) water. Whisk vigorously in a ‘W’ or ‘M’ motion until the matcha is smooth and frothy with no clumps.
Assemble the drink: Place ice cubes into a tall glass. Pour the strawberry puree evenly over the ice.
Pour the milk over the strawberry layer.
Slowly pour the whisked matcha mixture over the milk layer to create the distinct green layer on top.
Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Strawberry Matcha Latte.
Notes
For a Starbucks copycat version, use vanilla syrup in the strawberry layer for extra sweetness.
If you want a creamier texture, use full-fat oat milk or whole milk.
To achieve the best layers, pour the matcha slowly over the back of a spoon resting just above the milk.
