Make your next holiday meal or weeknight dinner simple with this Crockpot Turkey Breast recipe. This method yields tender, moist meat every time, requiring minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (5-7 pound) bone-in or boneless turkey breast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup chicken broth or water
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon butter for gravy

Instructions

  1. Wipe the turkey breast dry with paper towels. If using a bone-in breast, tuck the wing tips under the body.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the salt, pepper, thyme, sage, garlic powder, and onion powder to create the seasoned rub.
  3. Rub the olive oil all over the turkey breast. Sprinkle the seasoning mix evenly over the entire surface of the turkey.
  4. Pour the chicken broth or water into the bottom of your slow cooker. Place the seasoned turkey breast on top of the liquid, skin-side up.
  5. Cover the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 6 to 8 hours, or on HIGH for 3 to 4 hours. The internal temperature should reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit in the thickest part of the breast.
  6. Once cooked, carefully remove the turkey breast from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Tent it loosely with foil and let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing.
  7. To make gravy (optional): Skim any excess fat from the liquid remaining in the slow cooker. Place the slow cooker on high (if it has a warming setting) or transfer the liquid to a saucepan. Whisk in 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons of cold water until the gravy thickens slightly.
  8. Slice the turkey breast against the grain and serve immediately with the optional gravy.

Notes

  • For the juiciest results, use a meat thermometer to check for doneness; do not rely only on time.
  • If you desire crispy skin, carefully transfer the cooked turkey breast to a baking sheet after resting and place it under a preheated broiler for 3 to 5 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  • This recipe works well for a boneless turkey breast crock pot preparation, though cooking time may be slightly reduced.
