Make this easy Oreo Dirt Cake, a no-bake dessert featuring layers of rich chocolate pudding, a creamy filling, and crushed Oreo cookies. It is a crowd-pleasing treat perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (14.3 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 1 (3.9 ounce) package instant vanilla or cheesecake pudding mix
  • 4 cups cold milk
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (14.3 ounce) package Oreo cookies, crushed (about 35 cookies)
  • 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed (for topping)
  • Extra Oreo cookies, crushed (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crushed Oreos: Place all but about 1 cup of the Oreo cookies into a large zip-top bag. Crush them using a rolling pin until they resemble coarse dirt. Set aside the remaining 1 cup of crushed cookies for the top layer.
  2. Make the pudding layers: In a large bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and vanilla or cheesecake pudding mix with the 4 cups of cold milk. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
  3. Prepare the cream cheese layer: In a separate medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in 1 container of the thawed whipped topping until just combined.
  4. Combine the creamy filling: Gently fold the pudding mixture into the cream cheese mixture until fully incorporated. Then, gently fold in the majority of the crushed Oreos, reserving about 1 cup of the crushed cookies for the final layer.
  5. Assemble the dessert: In a large trifle dish or 9×13 inch pan, spread half of the Oreo cream mixture evenly across the bottom. Sprinkle half of the reserved 1 cup of crushed Oreos over this layer. Top with the remaining Oreo cream mixture, and finish by sprinkling the last of the reserved crushed Oreos on top to resemble dirt.
  6. Chill: Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the dessert to set completely.
  7. Serve: Before serving, spread the remaining container of thawed whipped topping over the top layer of crushed cookies, or serve plain for a more rustic look. Slice and serve this decadent Oreo treat.

Notes

  • You can use instant vanilla pudding or instant cheesecake pudding for the lighter cream layer; both work well.
  • For a quick crush, pulse the Oreos in a food processor, but be careful not to over-process them into a fine powder.
  • This dessert is best made a day ahead so the flavors meld and the layers firm up.
