Make this rich, layered Mississippi Mud Pie. It features a crunchy Oreo crust, a creamy chocolate filling, and a light whipped topping. This dessert is simple to assemble and perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 24 Oreo cookies, finely crushed
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed, divided
  • 1 (3.4 ounce) package instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine the crushed Oreo cookies and melted butter in a bowl. Press this mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9-inch pie plate. Place the crust in the freezer while you prepare the filling.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Fold in half of the thawed whipped topping until just combined. Spread this mixture evenly over the chilled Oreo crust.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and cold milk for about two minutes, until the mixture begins to thicken. Let it stand for five minutes.
  4. Gently fold the remaining half of the whipped topping into the thickened chocolate pudding mixture. Spoon this chocolate filling over the cream cheese layer in the pie crust.
  5. In a clean bowl, beat the heavy cream and granulated sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread this whipped cream evenly over the chocolate filling layer.
  6. Chill the Mississippi Mud Pie for at least four hours, or until firm.
  7. Before serving, garnish the top with chocolate shavings. Slice and serve this ultimate chocolate indulgence.

Notes

  • For a firmer crust, you can bake the Oreo crust at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes before chilling.
  • If you prefer a richer chocolate flavor, use chocolate milk instead of plain milk for the pudding layer.
  • You can substitute the Oreo crust with a graham cracker crust if you prefer a different texture for this classic Southern dessert recipe.
