Make tender, juicy chicken thighs with a sticky, sweet, and savory honey garlic glaze using this simple oven baking method.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Lightly grease a large baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Pat the chicken thighs completely dry using paper towels. This step helps achieve crispy skin. Place the thighs skin-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, ground ginger, black pepper, and red pepper flakes, if using. This is your garlic honey marinade for chicken.
  4. Brush about half of the honey garlic sauce evenly over the tops and sides of the chicken thighs. Reserve the remaining sauce for basting later.
  5. Bake the chicken thighs for 25 minutes.
  6. Remove the pan from the oven and carefully brush the reserved sauce over the chicken.
  7. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (74 degrees Celsius) and the skin is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving. This creates juicy chicken thighs.

Notes

  • For extra sticky chicken, you can briefly place the chicken under the broiler for the last 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning the honey.
  • If you prefer a slightly thicker glaze, simmer the reserved basting sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat for 3-5 minutes until it reduces slightly before brushing it on.
  • This recipe works well as a quick chicken thigh meals option for a busy weeknight.
