Make this easy weeknight glazed chicken for a sweet and savory dinner that tastes like takeout. This recipe uses simple ingredients to create a flavorful honey barbecue sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups uncooked Jasmine rice
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (for rice)

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice: Combine the Jasmine rice, 3 cups of water, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes. Fluff with a fork.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, ketchup, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  3. Cook the chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides and cooked through, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  4. Glaze the chicken: Pour the prepared honey BBQ sauce over the cooked chicken in the skillet. Add the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Reduce the sauce: Let the sauce simmer, stirring occasionally, for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken well. This creates your sticky chicken recipe.
  6. Serve: Spoon the sticky honey BBQ chicken over the fluffy Jasmine rice.

Notes

  • For a slow cooker honey barbecue chicken, combine all sauce ingredients and raw chicken in the slow cooker. Cook on low for 4 hours. Shred the chicken, stir to coat, and cook on high for 30 more minutes until thick.
  • If you prefer an air fryer sticky chicken, cook the chicken pieces at 380°F for 12 minutes, then toss with the sauce and cook for 2 more minutes until caramelized.
  • This flavorful chicken pairs well with steamed broccoli or a simple side slaw.
