Make the famous Hawaiian garlic shrimp right in your kitchen. This recipe delivers juicy shrimp coated in a rich, intensely garlicky butter sauce, just like the food trucks serve. It is quick to prepare and perfect served over rice to soak up the sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced (use more for extra flavor)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels. Season the shrimp lightly with salt, pepper, and paprika.
  2. In a large skillet, combine the olive oil and butter over medium heat. Allow the butter to melt completely.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the skillet. Cook the garlic for about 1 to 2 minutes, stirring constantly, until it is fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown or burn.
  4. Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque. Avoid overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Once the shrimp is cooked through, remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the fresh lemon juice. Toss the shrimp gently to coat them completely in the garlic butter sauce.
  6. Serve the Hawaiian garlic shrimp immediately over generous portions of hot white rice. Spoon extra garlic butter sauce over the rice.
  7. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For the most authentic shrimp truck flavor, use high-quality butter.
  • Serving this dish with plenty of white rice is key, as the rice absorbs the rich garlic butter sauce.
  • You can add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the sauce for a slight island kick.
