Make this easy, savory bread featuring a rich blend of garlic, Parmesan cheese, and fresh herbs. It is a comforting side dish perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf Italian or French bread (about 12 inches long)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced finely
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus extra for topping
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with foil or parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, parsley, oregano, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Mix until you have a smooth garlic butter spread.
  3. Slice the loaf of bread lengthwise, creating two long halves.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut surface of both bread halves, covering them completely.
  5. Place the bread halves, butter-side up, on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes until the butter is melted and the edges are lightly golden.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese over the top of both halves.
  8. Return the bread to the oven and bake for another 5 to 7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven. Slice the bread into individual servings while still warm.

Notes

  • For a softer interior, wrap the bread loosely in foil before the final baking stage.
  • If you prefer a crispier crust, place the bread directly on the oven rack for the last 5 minutes of baking.
  • Use fresh herbs if available for the best flavor in this cheesy savory bread recipe.
  • This bread pairs well with pasta dishes, soups, or as a simple appetizer bread.
