Make your plain white rice better with this easy Garlic Butter Rice recipe. This stovetop side dish uses simple ingredients like butter, garlic, and broth to create fluffy, flavorful rice perfect for any weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup long grain white rice, uncooked
  • 1 3/4 cups chicken broth or water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic brown.
  3. Add the uncooked rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the grains with the butter and garlic mixture. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in the chicken broth (or water) and add the salt and pepper. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and simmer for 15 to 18 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed. Do not lift the lid during this time.
  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, covered, for 5 minutes.
  7. Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.

Notes

  • For extra richness, replace half of the butter with olive oil.
  • You can use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth for a vegetarian option.
  • Jasmine rice works well in this recipe for a more aromatic result.
