Make this comforting Cheeseburger Pie for a quick weeknight dinner. This recipe uses a simple Bisquick batter crust, similar to the Pioneer Woman’s style, to create a savory, cheesy ground beef bake that tastes just like your favorite hamburger.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup Bisquick mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (if using a traditional batter crust instead of pure Bisquick)
  • 1/4 cup melted butter (for the crust mixture)
  • Optional toppings: Ketchup, mustard, sliced pickles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9-inch pie plate.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is fully browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir the salt and pepper into the cooked beef mixture. Spread the seasoned beef evenly into the bottom of the prepared pie plate. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef layer.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix, milk, and eggs until just combined. If you prefer a slightly less cakey crust, you can mix in 1/4 cup of flour and use 1/4 cup of melted butter instead of adding it to the beef.
  5. Pour the batter mixture slowly and evenly over the beef and cheese layer in the pie plate.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the pie cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm with your favorite cheeseburger toppings like ketchup, mustard, or pickles.

Notes

  • This recipe is a great base for a hearty meal; feel free to add 1/2 cup of finely chopped pickles or a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture for extra flavor.
  • If you do not have Bisquick, you can make a simple batter using 1 cup flour, 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 cup milk, and 2 eggs, whisked together.
  • This pie reheats well in the microwave or oven for easy leftovers.
