Make the best burger seasoning and create a classic American cheeseburger that tastes like home. This recipe delivers a juicy double cheeseburger perfect for an indulgent meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 4 slices American cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup dill pickle chips
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
  • Ketchup and mustard, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the best burger seasoning by mixing the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and dried mustard in a small bowl.
  2. Divide the ground beef into eight equal portions. Gently form each portion into a loose patty, slightly wider than the bun. Do not overwork the meat.
  3. Generously sprinkle the seasoning mix on both sides of each patty.
  4. Heat a cast-iron skillet or flat-top griddle over medium-high heat. You can also use your grill for grilling burger tips.
  5. Lightly butter the cut sides of the hamburger buns and toast them on the skillet or grill until golden brown. Set aside.
  6. Place four patties on the hot surface. Cook for 3 minutes.
  7. Flip the patties. Immediately place two slices of cheese on top of each patty. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burgers reach your desired doneness.
  8. While the second side cooks, assemble the burgers: Place a cooked patty on the bottom half of a toasted bun. Top with pickle chips and chopped onion. Add ketchup and mustard as desired.
  9. Place the second patty on top of the first. Top with the remaining bun half. Serve your homemade hamburger recipe immediately.

Notes

  • For extra juicy results, press down on the patties lightly with a spatula only when you first place them on the heat to create a good sear.
  • If you prefer a softer bun texture, skip toasting and lightly brush the buns with mayonnaise instead of butter.
  • Use a thin layer of mayonnaise on the top bun to help hold the toppings in place.
