Ingredients
Scale
1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1/2 cup pure maple syrup
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup tahini
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
2–4 tablespoons water or milk (as needed for consistency)
1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (optional, for topping)
Instructions
Place the rinsed and drained chickpeas, maple syrup, cocoa powder, tahini, vanilla extract, and salt into a food processor.
Process the ingredients until the mixture is mostly smooth. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides a few times.
If the mixture is too thick to process smoothly, add water or milk, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach a thick, spreadable dip consistency, similar to brownie batter.
Taste the hummus and add a little more sweetener or cocoa if desired.
Transfer the sweet chickpea recipes dip to a serving bowl.
If using, sprinkle the top with mini chocolate chips.
Serve immediately or chill for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to set.
Notes
For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
Serve this vegan dessert hummus with apple slices, graham crackers, or pretzels for dipping.
If you do not have a food processor, a high-powered blender can work, but you may need to add slightly more liquid.
