Ingredients
Scale
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, divided
8 ounces egg noodles or elbow macaroni
1/2 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1/4 cup dill pickle relish (optional)
1/2 cup crushed potato chips or tater tots (for topping)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Brown the ground beef and chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Drain off any excess grease.
Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for one minute.
Add the cream of mushroom soup, milk, ketchup, mustard, and pickle relish (if using) to the skillet. Mix well.
Stir in the cooked pasta and half of the shredded cheddar cheese until combined.
Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
Sprinkle the remaining half cup of cheddar cheese over the top.
Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the cheese is melted.
If using crushed chips or tater tots, sprinkle them over the cheese during the last 5 minutes of baking for a crisp topping.
Let the cheeseburger casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a bacon cheeseburger casserole variation, cook 4 slices of crumbled bacon with the ground beef.
You can substitute the pasta with 3 cups of cooked tater tots mixed into the beef mixture for a tater tot casserole style.
Prepare this dish ahead of time by assembling everything except the topping, covering it, and refrigerating for up to 24 hours. Add 10 minutes to the baking time if baking from cold.
