Make this classic Bisquick Impossible Cheeseburger Pie for a simple, comforting meal. This recipe uses basic ingredients to create a savory, self-layering pie that tastes just like your favorite cheeseburger.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup Bisquick mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F. Lightly grease a 10-inch pie plate.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned. Drain off any excess fat. Stir in the salt and pepper. Spread the beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the prepared pie plate.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix, milk, and eggs until smooth. This is your batter.
  4. Pour the batter slowly and evenly over the meat mixture in the pie plate. Do not stir.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the batter.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the center is set and the top is golden brown. The pie will puff up and then settle slightly as it cools, creating the ‘impossible’ layers.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the ketchup and mustard for the topping.
  8. Let the pie cool for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing and serving with the sauce on the side or drizzled on top.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add 1/2 cup of finely chopped dill pickles to the meat mixture before pouring the batter.
  • If you want to make this a cheeseburger bake idea, you can layer the meat, then sprinkle half the cheese, pour the batter, and top with the remaining cheese.
  • This recipe works well as a make ahead dinner idea; assemble everything except baking, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Add 5-10 minutes to the bake time if baking straight from the refrigerator.
  • Use ground turkey instead of beef for a slightly lighter version of this comfort food casserole.
