Make satisfying, high-protein chicken wings with crispy skin in your air fryer. This recipe skips the deep-fry mess and gives you a perfect base for your favorite sauces.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder (aluminum-free)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 cup buffalo wing sauce (or other sauce for tossing)

Instructions

  1. Pat the chicken wings completely dry using paper towels. This step is key for crispy skin.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the baking powder, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Add the dried wings to the spice mixture and toss until every piece is evenly coated.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 380 degrees Fahrenheit.
  5. Arrange the wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  6. Air fry for 20 minutes.
  7. Increase the air fryer temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook for another 5 to 8 minutes, or until the skin is deeply golden brown and very crispy.
  8. Remove the wings from the air fryer and place them in a clean bowl.
  9. Toss the hot wings immediately with your chosen buffalo wing sauce or desired coating.
  10. Serve your crispy air fryer wings immediately as a healthy game day snack or Friday night reward meal.

Notes

  • For the crispiest skin, ensure your wings are completely dry before seasoning.
  • If you prefer a different flavor, toss the cooked wings in BBQ sauce or a dry rub instead of buffalo sauce.
  • This method works well for keto chicken wings if you avoid sugary sauces.
